Haverill wull be used for three main purposes on the layout:
- Additional storage of rolling stock
- Staging for trains either to Dover or as through trains to the north country
- Interchange with Salem on the lower level
Generally speaking, operating sessions will involve little movement within the Haverhill yard. This will avoid operator congestion with operators for Salem below (which will also minimize operating session movement) and the Gilman VT paper mill above that will see operator activity.
Because of the primarily utilitarian purpose for Haverhill, the yard is kept pretty plane with a couple double ended ladders to simply facilitate locomotive access to both ends of the ladders for building up trains prior to operating sessions.
