Crawford Notch is the highest point on the layout, having climbed a significant grade from Bartlett, across Frankenstein Trestle and Wiley Brook, and poised to make the descent towards Fabyan station.
Because helpers are required to pull trains up from Bartlett, there is sufficient track for freght delivery, for extra locomotives to idle, and a sufficient siding to allow through freights to wait while passenger traffic to meet in the opposite direction on the mainline.
The depot and the Crawford House will both be modelled to match the prototype. The early 1950s were the era of the snow trains bringing winter sports enthusiasts to the area for skiing and foliage lovers to the beauty of the mountains in the fall.
